Mold- And Mildew-Free Basement Finishing In East Coast

There’s A Cool Trick Behind Our Basement
Finishing System’s Anti-Moisture Benefits For Your Home In Greater East Coast
The Counterintuitive Way We Keep Your New Basement Spaces Mold- And Mildew-Free
Basement finishing in East Coast is a specialized form of home remodeling. Do it right, and you have a beautiful, moisture-controlled downstairs space for your local home. Do it wrong, and mold and mildew problems are almost certainly in your future.
Unfortunately, most of the region’s contractors do it wrong. They don’t mean to. It’s just that they use the wrong product for the job – drywall.
Drywall is a go-to option for above-ground use. However, it has serious drawbacks when installed underground.
What’s your alternative? Lux Renovations’ purpose-built Owens Corning basement finishing system.
The panels in this system do something drywall can’t. Namely, they prevent mold and mildew from forming on or behind your basement walls.
Our secret? A counterintuitive design trick that allows us to fight moisture by not fighting it at all!

Mold, Mildew, And Basement Finishing
Moisture accumulation in your East Coast basement is essentially inevitable. That’s just the reality of building underground interior spaces in your home.
The question is, what do you do with that moisture? When a basement finishing company relies on drywall, they’re basically building a box within a box.
The outer box is formed by your basement walls, a primary source of moisture infiltration. The inner box, made from drywall, is intended to keep that moisture from reaching your finished living space.
Does this work? Not really. That’s true for a couple of reasons.
First, as a moisture barrier, drywall is subpar at best. In fact, it serves as a large sponge and draws moisture into its interior over time. The end result is often physical damage and mold formation.
You can prevent this from happening by installing moisture-blocking materials underneath your drywall. But that just leaves you with a different kind of problem.
Trapped between your basement walls and drywall, moisture has nowhere to go. In this type of environment, mold and mildew can easily flourish.
More than once, we’ve torn out old drywall and found massive accumulations hiding just an inch or so away. That’s one of the reasons why Lux Renovations relies on a different approach – breathable wall panels!
A Counterintuitive Solution For East Coast Basements
There is an effective way to deal with basement moisture, but it may surprise you. Don’t try to keep it out of your interior spaces.
Counterintuitive, right? But it’s true.
The walls in our basement finishing system aren’t designed to stop moisture from entering your home. That’s a losing battle.
Instead, they provide ready access to incoming moisture. Rather than staying trapped behind drywall, it flows out into your basement.
What’s more, our wall panels don’t trap moisture themselves. This means they won’t serve as a ready breeding ground for mold and mildew.
Now, you still have to deal with moisture somehow. On every project, we recommend you install a dehumidifier in your newly finished spaces. This dehumidifier does what your basement walls can’t by pulling water vapor out of the air and dissipating it harmlessly.
But, as for your walls, they remain blissfully problem-free. Not only will they last for a lifetime. They’ll do so while supporting a healthy, pleasant basement environment.
